Requirements
Volunteers serving in Latin America must:
- Be motivated youth who are willing and able to act responsibly and with maturity throughout their training and volunteer experiences.
- Be willing to abide by Amigos standards of conduct and community behavior. Use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and amorous conduct are not acceptable while involved in Amigos activities or while living in a host country.
- Be 16 years old by June 15th, 2011 and have completed the sophomore year of high school
- Successfully complete at least two years of high school Spanish or Portuguese, or the equivalent, prior to departure to Latin America.
- Have parents or guardians who will support youth’s participation in Amigos.
- Demonstrate a commitment to developing their leadership skills through participation in the AMIGOS training program. Attendance at all training activities is expected.
- Comply with all health and safety policies set forth by AMIGOS
- Complete an application form, provide a recommendation letter, participate in an interview at the beginning of the school year, demonstrate determination, maturity and responsibility during the training period,and demonstrate language proficiency.
- Provide proof of health insurance
- Fullfill fundraising requirements
- Pay the participation fee and all essential vaccinations, medical tests, and medications. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available to reduce the fee and medical costs.
